Vera
Lynn - The Forces’ Sweetheart - born 1917 in London.
Dame Vera Lynn was considered one of the major
entertainers during World War II, and was nicknamed "The
Forces' Sweetheart". She is known by many seniors around
the world for her popular songs during the War - among them
"We'll Meet Again" and "The
White Cliffs of Dover", which was performed at
numerous outdoor concerts for soldiers. The nostalgic lyrics
("We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when,
but I know we'll meet again some sunny day") had a great
appeal to the many people separated from loved ones during the
war, and it became one of the symbolic songs of the wartime
period. Vera Lynn visited Denmark several times after the War. |
