The National Aquarium
Denmark’s Aquarium (Danmarks Akvarium) was inaugurated in 1939 and from the very start the Aquarium’s ambition was to create a world-classed underwater paradise and aquatic facility – with a broad collection of species from the world’s aquatic life living in our precious seas and oceans. The Aquarium is also an international recognised research centre for scientific studiesconversation and education. A dedicated team of scientist coordinates their marine science to a network of international marine life aquariums stretching across the world. Denmark’s Aquarium considers itself to be the National Aquarium and institute of its type in Denmark with a reputation for excellence to provide visitors with stunning exhibits and a greater insight and understanding of the underwater wildlife as well as the important meaning of global conservation of the marine environment.

The new Aquarium complex building will consist of 70 tanks holding five million litres of water and will be one of the most innovative building of its kind in Europe - and will include cold and warm water environments with both salt and fresh water - as well as a rain forest and ocean habitats. Among the aquarium exhibits putting people at the centre of underwater life is a shark tank that wraps around visitors - a Faroese bird colony - coral reefs teeming with fish that span the spectrum of colours and a dripping rain forest - complete with animals. The Blue Planet Aquarium will be placed directly on the east coast shores of Amager – where visitor can experience a "fish's eye view" of life under water and sea outside.
